Oh Really

I found this site today that just generates 4 random words that form a (decent) sentence describing who you are and what you do.

My personal favorite was, “You are a prickly midget who likes to knit monster cocks.” Although, “You are a slam dancing slut, who likes to buy mufflers” was a close runner-up.

Here’s to You, Antec

So I bought an Antec 900 “Advanced Gaming Case” today from Micro Center. Surprisingly, their price was actually about $30 cheaper than what Newegg had to offer, even before shipping! So yay me on that note.

Now here comes the absolute shock of the year for me (in the most delightful of ways!); included within the case was a note that read as follows:

“Dear Valued Customer,

It has come to our attention that a recent production of 120mm Tri-Cool fans may suffer from a minor defect in the speed control that prevents some units from working properly at the low speed setting. Since the problem was discovered in post-production Quality Control there is no way to determine precisely which units suffer from this issue without opening and testing tens of thousands of cases. So, in the interest of customer service and satisfaction, Antec has included a complete set of new, fully tested 120mm Tri-Cool fans with this case, free of charge.

If any of your pre-installed fans suffer a performance problem, you can simply replace it with one of the units enclosed. Otherwise these fans are yours to enjoy and use as you please.”

I hope you were sitting down for that and not picking yourself up off the floor from the awesomeness that just punched you in the eyes, packed within that note. Plunging into the recesses of my memory, I’m fairly certain that I’m unable to pull up any other instance wherein a company of this size has known about a manufacturing defect on their end and preemptively done something about it before I even buy the product. No hassling with searching on forums as to what was wrong; no having to bundle up the defective product and ship it to them (likely paying shipping both ways) to have them test it for two weeks and maybe send me a (possibly) working replacement; no hating the company due to a minor problem known to them already.

No sir.

This absolutely made my day and made me an even bigger fan of Antec. Those guys are just… swell.

This is not my face, this is not my life.
And there is not a single thing here I can recognize.
And this is all a dream.
And none of you are real.
I’d give anything… … …I’d give anything.

Giving The Man The Slip

Well, that fellow over at Artfully Unemployed beat me to the punchline (as I was frantically trying to finish a paper on East Asian Religion this morning) on tossing out his thoughts on Reznor’s latest lyrical lamentations in the form of a free digital release through his website.

Thoughtfully enough, that tall dark and skinny guy at hxxh tossed me an email with a link directly to the download making it one of the laziest music acquisitions I’ve ever made. It’s fucking brilliant is what it is. I paid $5 for his previous release Ghosts and felt like I got my hard(ly) earned coins worth. Had he asked for another Lincoln stamped greenback for The Slip I would have gladly proffered it into his hand and been even more satisfied with his most recent Halo.

I especially enjoy the last five tracks: Head Down, Lights in the Sky, Corona Radiata, The Four of Us are Dying, and Demon Seed. Corona Radiata and The Four of Us are Dying are basically lyrically-free and sound like nice mixture of Fragile and Downward Spiral synthesis inspired songs. Lights in the Sky catches me because I’m a sucker for anything involving a piano.

This is a trend I would be deliriously delighted to see taken advantage of by a wider variety of artists, not just in the realm of music but in video games (largely already provided visavie Steam), televised series, etc. Superior content - cost - clutter = win.

Today might has well have been Christmas as in addition to all that gloriousness, newegg informed me that my order had been shipped and a tracking order states that I’ll be filled with Gleeeeeee!(tm) sometime Wednessday!

God I love packages.

Wallet Downsizing

Well, I finally bit the bullet and purchased at least half of my intended order from my previous post. I changed things up a bit and decided to get a more reliable power supply and a some more powerful video cards. Those were all I purchased this month and I’ll buy the remainder (CPU/Motherboard/HDD/RAM) next month. The board I have right now is capable of SLI so at least I’ll be able to treat myself to a gig of video RAM this month ^_^
